Outfit of the Day: Beach Glam

IMG_6875.JPG

Even though summer has sadly decided to wind it’s way down, that’s no excuse to not milk every last minute out of summer dressing. I’m never happier than when I’m laying dormant in the sunshine by the water, but going to the beach is no reason to not dress up. I’m usually on a boat in the sound most weekends in the summer (seriously no better escape), but when I’m gifted with a beach day I take it and run with it.

This outfit was inspired by what my mom wore growing up, though I glammed it up a bit. She was (and still is!) a foxy lady with her own style, whenever we were going to play down by the lake she’d throw on a tropical pareo over one of her original J.Crew one pieces (that as we all know made an epic come back this year). Effortless, flawless and completely at ease, it was exactly the vibe I was going for.

I just snagged this amazing oversize nautical stripe inspired wrap from Zara that I artfully tied to be my pareo, and threw on my favorite swimsuit of this summer, a Triangl bikini (which if you haven’t heard of, they’re amazing and I highly recommend grabbing one!). Next I grabbed my favorite straw hat from banana republic, added some wedges and my blue chrome ray bans and I was good to go. It took me all of 5 minutes to pull together, was decadently comfortable and chic (perfect for the Yacht Club drinks we went right to after) and made me feel as glamorous as JBKO on a yacht with Aristotle Onassis. What better way to spend a day then frolicking at the beach with friends?

With Love,

Amanda Faymous

Outfit of the Day: Orange Creamsicle

So I’ve been bad about keeping up to date with the wonderful romance of summertime, but I wanted to blog about all of the wonderful (flowy, cool and comfy) outfits I’ve been wearing. This is a gorgeous peach colored dress that looks like melted sherbet and the happy middle of a sunset (before the deep reds and plums happen), and it is literally the perfect summer dress. It’s by an obscure Aussie brand I found on a particularly good shopping day with a great friend.

I paired it with my favorite lightweight white House of Harlow blazer that I wear with everything, (best investment piece ever), and threw on these buttery Franco Sarto heels. I wore this to an open air margarita and taco bar to catch up with 2 of my great friends and everyone loved the sophistication of the pieces.

Outfit of the Day: Silk and Sunshine

So I grabbed these phenomenal green silk shorts at Nordstrom a few weeks back and they’re perfect to either dress up or dress down. I love camo green, I think it looks great on everyone and it’s a really cool twist on neutral that’s not black (I’m pretty sure everyone in New York lives monochromatically).

These shorts also add some sex appeal because they have high thigh (look at that rhyme) slits on the side but they’re so comfortable they almost feel like you’re wearing pajamas. I was out on Long Island for a boat and beach weekend and couldn’t resist throwing them on. The tank I’m wearing is a basic flowy dress tank from H&M, the shoes are my favorite and most comfortable MIA wedges and the necklace is a very summery turquoise beaded necklace from J.Crew. To tie it all together I went for my trusty Ray Ban aviators that make everything an outfit.

I love this outfit because it’s easy to transition from day to night, and it’s really comfortable and breezy, perfect for an unfettered day on the island and the haziness of early summer.

Outfit of the Day: Country Club Attire

Restrictive dressing has never been my forte. I’m bad at business casual, was routinely sent home in middle school for my shorts being too short and I hate pants. So dressing when we go out to the country club can be a bit of a hassle with all of it’s rules.

This Sunday, my family and I went to our country club for brunch in honor of our mother. Both my sister and I are very last minute outfit planners so what came together was kind of a miracle. I threw on some new harem pants I picked up this weekend at Urban outfitters, my favorite Harlowe and Graham white summer blazer (this thing is an obsession and so worth the price tag), a basic Michael stars tank and MIA wedges. Add to that a Stella and Dot statement necklace borrowed from my mom and I passed all tests. My sister wore a stunning green sheer maxi from Urban and strappy sandals from there as well. Take a peek at our looks!

Outfit of the Day: Derby dressing

20140507-130850.jpg

This past weekend was the Kentucky Derby, and while I wasn’t going to a Derby party per se, I was at least going to be watching the main event. Add to that some rooftop drinking in Brooklyn, and it was suddenly a full day affair, so I decided to have a little fun with my outfit.

I threw on one of my new summer 2014 favorites, a white billowing dress that makes me feel like I’m Angelina Jolie in Mr and Mrs Smith when they first meet in that exotic foreign country (and I’m just gonna keep pretending that I am because why not). I snagged this dress in white and black at Macy’s because it’s perfect with layers, necklaces and everything in between. I layered it with my staple denim jacket and my favorite black hat from H and M. Threw on my ray bans and flat jack rogers and voila I was ready to go! One special last piece I added was a beautiful beaded ombré blue necklace my little sister had brought back to me from her time in South Africa that I’ve been trying to wear forever and this finally worked beautifully.

In the end, while I had more Coronas than mint juleps that day, I still felt I could fit in down at the derby. Or at least keep pretending I was Angelina Jolie.
